FROM SIMON BAGGS – CHAIR OF
Following surveys of members, past-
members and non-members,
consultation with industry leaders, a
great deal of planning work by the
MEA executive and staff and
significant contemplation by the MEA
Board, we have now set a path for
MEA over the next few years which
we hope will make MEA a more
relevant, salient, helpful and valuable organisation for members.
Not all the new measures will be relevant to everyone given the
diverse membership, but there are new measures for all – from
PCOs, event managers, venues, AV production, convention,
destinations and tourism organisations and meeting industry
Some measures are profound, such as the introduction of
corporate accreditation, the introduction of free digital PDs or
co-operative digital sales campaigns. Some measures are
targeted toward tackling some of the long-standing weaknesses
such as providing greater benefits to members based remotely.
Most of the new measures recognise, embrace and maximise
the opportunities in the changing ways businesses and individuals
are communicating and transacting with each other.
A more functional and fresh faced website and a markedly different
strategy in the way MEA communicates to members will hopefully
ensure you are fully aware of how MEA can be useful to you.
Some measures will be enacted immediately, some will take
longer. We do hope that you will make full use of these new
benefits in addition to the existing benefits.
FROM LINDA GAUNT – CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
We are currently working on a number of initiatives to enhance our
member benefits. Long-standing benefits that have withstood the
test of time and our changing environment will also be enhanced
as appropriate. As follows:
Currently member communication is largely through the weekly
“What’s On” complimented by fliers for events and professional
development programs as they draw closer. We are currently
prioritising the need for:
• A member communication strategy
• A social media strategy
• A revitalised member website
We are focussed on ensuring the members receive the relevant
communication to assist them use their membership to full benefit.
More streamlined communications in a manner relevant to current
trends is high on our agenda.
Currently meetings are being held with various supplier
stakeholders to assist with determining the feasibility of our needs.
Corporate Accreditation has long been on MEA’s agenda. It is not
something that the association would jump into lightly nor
undertake half-heartedly. To enable MEA to embrace this
accreditation in a manner that is highly credible, both financial
viability and professionalism need to be taken into consideration.
The Board of MEA have brought this initiative to the top of their
agenda and intend to drive this over the next 12 months.
Work is to continue on the marketing effort to see the MEA AMM
and AIMM programs be marketed beyond our own industry. Other
individual accreditation programs shall be prioritised. MEA to work
with the relevant industry sectors to investigate affordable ways
that this can be achieved.
Special Interest Groups
Members have indicated that they would like to continue special
interest groups throughout the year and continue the conversations
that occur during the annual national conference. While we have
been fortunate to have members drive some special interest groups
beyond the conference this is not something that has been
sustainable over all sectors of the industry. MEA will be setting up
on-line special interest groups over all sectors within the next
quarter and members will be invited to join.
Throughout the survey members noted that they would like a
relevant forum for leaders within the industry. MEA is currently
convening a focus group to assist with this “would be” annual
Annual National Conference
Ensure that the MEA Annual National Conference is on a two-year
rotational period, hence members being aware of the host
destination for the next two years. Work is currently in place
toward the transition of a two year announcement.
Revamp Y MEA
Undergo a complete overall of YMEA. Work towards YMEA
becoming a future leaders program. A focus group will be formed
and initiatives put in place early in the new year.
Digital media sales
The survey was answered favourably in regard to the introduction
of digital media sales on behalf of members. Further investigation
will be undertaken with those with expertise in this area.
MEA is seriously looking into how we can better service our
regional members as we are mindful of their needs. This area will
be looked at closely by the Board and selected regional focus
groups over the next 12 months.
