generating an expected $5 billion in incremental economic benefit to New South Wales over the
next 25 years,” he said.
It’s impressive, yet the true value of this venue goes further than such cash injections and
Donaghy believes it is the ‘beyond tourism’ benefits of ICC Sydney which will help truly deliver
“We will be responsible for bringing thousands of the best and brightest minds together, to
learn, collaborate and innovate – an unmistakable contribution to the local knowledge economy.
The precinct is also perfectly situated to become a hub of creativity and new ideas. It links to the
city’s financial districts, media and creative, cultural, research and educational hubs, and is just
a short walk from the CBD.
“The idea is that visitors and Sydneysiders alike will be able to tap into the city’s energetic
spirit – soaking up the dynamism of our precinct and surrounding institutions, the natural beauty
of the harbour and the inspirational multiculturalism of our global city.”
As the centre rises up, a new striking theatre venue is also drawing a lot of attention in
Sydney and beyond.
Director of Business Development for ICC Sydney, Beverley Parker, said the ICC Sydney
Theatre is just one part of the broader entertainment offering which is helping add value to
clients looking to provide delegates with a world class experience, rather than just another
conference or meeting schedule.
“For months the team has been travelling around Sydney, Australia and the world to sell a
space that does not yet exist and ensuring clients can see our vision for the future of events has
been the main objective. Along with preparing for conventions and exhibitions, the broader team
is also gearing up to host an exciting range of local acts and the most celebrated international
performers as part of a calendar of high profile events year round,” she said.
With such an ambitious project coming to fruition, focus has also turned to scaling up and
delivering an attractive working culture to bring top talent into the fold.
“Our success will be determined by the quality of the experience – and we have the best
talent in the industry stepping up for the challenge. In preparation for launch, ICC Sydney is
bolstering its team, employing more than 300 full time staff and up to 1,500 casual staff, across
a breadth of industries,” said Donaghy.
As part of this, an enviable catering team is being assembled to set new standards in culinary
services across the board, delivering a superior food and beverage approach to every event:
from day-to-day operations right through to exclusive functions and banquets.
“Spearheaded by Director of Culinary
Services, Lynell Peck, and Executive Chef,
Tony Panetta, our culinary offering will include
the best locally produced and seasonal
produce – all part of ICC Sydney’s
commitment to supporting Australian farmers
and boosting rural jobs,” he said.
This support for local producers has seen
both Peck and Panetta work to source
everything from fruit and vegetables to coffee,
seafood, olive oil, dairy products milk and
more, from within the city, region and state,
with the aim to create outstanding food and
wine menus based on the principles of
sophisticated simplicity, quality and freshness.
“Seasonable, fresh, nutritious and healthy
food provides the best opportunity for minds
to think clearly, engage fully, and generate the
best ideas possible. These features will be
hallmarks of our approach,” Executive Chef,
Tony Panetta said.
The installation of advanced technology is
also an exciting work in progress, with high
definition screens, large-scale projection and
top audio technology providing endless
possibilities for creating events that boost
engagement and professional development.
Ahead of doors opening in December
2016, it is obvious ICC Sydney is a hive of
activity, with the team working to deliver its
unique and spectacular vision, an innovative
precinct that is undoubtedly set to elevate
Sydney’s standing as a truly global business
and cultural hub. m
