The International Convention Centre
Sydney is one part of the exciting $3.4 billion
transformation of the waterfront precinct at
Darling Harbour, which boasts new and
refurbished hotel product, new event spaces,
and an enticing mix of quality restaurants,
bars and open spaces.
The ICC Sydney is set to open its doors in
December this year in what is one of the
most anticipated new-build launches of the
past decade in Australia, offering an

Already bookings have been flooding in
from national and international bodies and
corporations wanting to be among the first to
use the new state-of-the-art facilities.
A strong proponent of the activity is
general manager of the Four Points by
Sheraton Sydney, Darling Harbour, David
Fraser, whose hotel is on track for a June
2016 opening (see page 102) after major
refurbishment and expansion works.
Mr Fraser says development at the property
is spearheading a number of projects which
represent a significant change in Darling
Harbour that will come to fruition over the next
few years and will have an enormously positive
impact on the Australian meetings industry.
2016 is an exciting year for Darling Harbour, with the culmination of years
of planning and construction set to be realised.
“From the largescale International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney), to new hotel
properties and of course Barangaroo, developers have seen the potential of this area and we’re
excited to be a part of such a game-changing development to Sydney,” he said.
“Once all the developments in the area are complete, Sydney will not only be the leading
meetings and events location in Australia – but in the Asia-Pacific region.
“Sydney, and Darling Harbour in particular, has always offered a truly picturesque setting and
these new spaces will leverage those famous views and provide the facilities required to offer
world-class meetings and events.”
Not to be outdone
When your neighbours are sprucing themselves up it’s often a good idea to keep pace, which is
exactly what the well-placed Novotel Sydney on Darling Harbour has done in recent times.
The 525-room four-and-a -half star property overlooks Darling Harbour, with city views and
easy access to everything the precinct has to offer.
Its most recent addition has been creation of The Ternary concept restaurant, now being
described as Darling Harbour’s premier concept restaurant.
The name originates from the Latin word ternarius which means “consisting of three things”.
The three things in the case of this restaurant includes the Grill Kitchen, Asian Kitchen and Wine
Bar. Combined, they represent the idea of a comfortable and social space where not only great
food and wine is shared, but special moments too.
The objective at The Ternary is to celebrate fresh produce, capturing three senses: smell,
taste and sight. Executive chef Anthony Flowers brings a contemporary approach to the menu
with a focus on texture, balance, local produce and a harmony of flavours.
The way it is set up means there is the ability to intertwine cultures and cuisines while
showcasing an impressive diversity of interactive live cooking styles. The atmosphere is open
and welcoming and serves to highlight the cooking skills and creativity of its chefs, bringing the
three Ternary pillars together and encouraging guests to converse and engage.
Good news for the event sector is that The Ternary can be hired for exclusive use.
“At The Ternary, our events team are here to tailor-make an experience that your guests are
sure to remember, utilising our stunning selection of indoor and outdoor spaces, including
poolside and harbour view terraces that are sure to impress your guests,” the marketing
“From a bespoke end of year event, to your next completely themed launch, together we will
help you create a memorable experience.”
Capacities are 180 for a sit-down restaurant style, 270 sit-down banquet, and 500 for
cocktail events. m
