In addition to new projects, existing resorts such as the Novotel Twin
Waters Resort are planning major expansion of their facilities, while a
new ‘glamping’ resort in Maroochydore will have considerable meeting
and events facilities. To this is added another internationally branded
hotel following the rebranding of Pelican Resort to Sebel, with its high-
end meeting and incentive facilities.
“One of our principal local destinations, Maroochydore, is planning a
remarkable makeover with 165,000 sqm of commercial space to be
established, which will create a new central business district for the
Sunshine Coast region. With its proximity to Sunshine Coast airport and
its picturesque surroundings, we expect to see new hotel developments
and facilities to cater for the business events market,” Ms Bower revealed.
Diversity, she continued, is what sets the Sunshine Coast apart from
most beachside locations along the east coast. “While we have
outstanding beaches and water activities, the Sunshine Coast can
offer exceptional itineraries in the hinterland, with nature to the fore. We
have established locations such Caloundra, Mooloolaba,
Maroochydore, Noosa and Gympie as well as emerging locations such
as Rainbow Beach, the Mary Valley and Glass House Mountains, all
ideal for smaller, personalised incentive groups wanting to indulge in
world-class scenery, food and wellness programs,” she said.
“We are increasingly looking to international groups with Qantas’
new services making it easier to bring in delegates to the Sunshine
Coast from a number of cities.”
Ms Bower said that a number of major conferences have been
attracted during 2016, such as the Smart Communities Summit in
Caloundra in March, along with a wide range of sporting, food and
cultural events. “The ideal climate and facilities has seen AFL and NRL
teams establish the Sunshine Coast as their base for fitness and pre-
season training camps,” she said.
Most recognisable of the Sunshine Coast sub-regions is Noosa Heads,
an exclusive beachside village, home to Sheraton, Peppers, Sebel,
RACV and Outrigger resort properties.
The Sheraton Noosa Resort & Spa is the only five-star, full service
resort positioned in the heart of Hastings Street and just steps from
Noosa’s main beach. Offering 176 spacious studios, suites, villas and
lifestyle studios, it features private balconies with stunning river, pool
and national park or ocean views. Flexible conference facilities provide
everything needed for a successful event including wireless
connectivity, state-of-the-art technology and an experienced onsite
technical team. There’s a total of eight meeting rooms all with natural
light include the Noosa Ballroom with a capacity for 350 delegates
theatre-style and 220 guests banquet-style with an outdoor terrace
perfect for breaks and exhibitions.
With a lagoon style pool, the scene is set for cocktail parties and
must do poolside events. Add to the mix one of Australia’s most
acclaimed chefs Peter Kuruvita, who has brought his globally inspired
cuisine to the resort at the Noosa Beach House which is perfect for
dinners with a difference.
Then in Caloundra there’s the Sunshine Coast’s oldest and largest
venue, the Event Centre with an indoor flat floor space of 1432m2
