Meetings Event (AIME) – the
leading trade event for the
meetings and events industry in
the Asia Pacific region – has a long and rich
history; has created many strong industry
connections; and will be relaunched to
market from February 18-20, 2019.
Talk2 Media & Events was appointed by
Melbourne Convention Bureau, the owners of
the event, to manage and deliver AIME.
Stepping up to the plate, the AIME team are
passionate about the event and the industry
and champion their vision for a dynamic,
“Our vision for AIME is to create a business
platform that delivers measurable returns for
the investment made – in time, in money, in
opportunities for developing and growing
your business,” says event director Jay
“We are committed to delivering an event
that inspires the meetings and events
industry as a whole: to innovate, to create an
exciting future, to discover the new.”
The AIME team have been talking to the
industry a lot over the past few months,
listening to their experiences and
understanding what they would like to see. A
common comment has really struck a chord
people say ‘AIME is a great place to catch
up with old friends.’ There is important value
in the connectivity and friendship of the
community, but this is a business event, and
it needs to deliver business outcomes.
The market is keen to see AIME deliver on
this dimension. They don’t just want to meet
up with existing networks. They want this

event to be a place to create new connections, to drive their sales pipeline with people they
haven’t done business with before.
They also want to discover destinations, conference centres, hotels, attractions and services
they don’t know about. To be a premium buyer, you need to be on top of your trade, knowing
all the fabulous new possibilities for their events.
AIME is also about delivering a meaningful experience. AIME 2019 will create something that
people carry away with them, that builds a lasting positive impression of their experience. This
could be experienced through the social events, networking, or the new business they have
done – there are so many important components to running a successful event.
AIME is keen to challenge the status quo. As an industry we tend to hit repeat and to be
successful you have to have the courage to reinvent yourself. And not just for the sake of
reinventing, but to challenge the industry we are in, being a part of the force that impels it forward.
Importantly, AIME is committed to a 70 per cent increase on buyer numbers from recent
years. AIME is welcoming experienced buyers from across Australasia and are also targeting 35
per cent of buyers from the Asia Pacific region with a further 25 per cent from across Europe,
the Middle East and the Americas.
“Hosted buyers, both quantity and quality, together with geographic spread are core to
underpinning the future success of AIME,” says Talk2Media & Events CEO, Matt Pearce.
“We have invested heavily into the Hosted Buyer Program and it’s pleasing to receive strong
early interest from buyers in Asia-Pac and Australia alike.”
All buyer expressions of interest are vetted for professional suitability before being invited to
register for the Hosted Buyer Program. Registration details cover experience, annual event
budgets, purchasing authority, and their event portfolio over the next five years. With up to four
reference checks this comprehensive assessment of applicants ensures the right buyers will be
at AIME in 2019.
The team are well on the way to achieving their ambitions with over 200 hosted buyers
already committed to attending AIME, 61 per cent of whom are from outside Australia.
Exhibitors can connect with the buyers at AIME with all-inclusive stand packages that include
32 carefully matched appointments with buyers interested in doing business in their region. By
aligning the preferences of the buyers with the destinations and services of the exhibitors, every
meeting has the potential to deliver business outcomes.
There are many benefits to attending events, but networking probably has to be the
fundamental driving force. AIME creates an environment that facilitates networking. One can’t go
without the other. If you can create serendipitous moments through the event and the
connections created, you deliver something really meaningful and valuable to your attendees. m
