vation Australia was operating
on behalf of SWIFT (Society for
Worldwide Interbank Financial
Telecommunications) as the
“Official Destination Partner”.
The Ovation Australia team became
involved with the event in 2014 – more than
four years prior – as part of a Sydney
destination showcase to the SWIFT
organising executives. MCI & Ovation have
been working with SWIFT for more than 10
years, delivering Sibos around the globe
including in 2017 in Toronto, 2016 in Geneva,
and 2015 in Singapore.
With the conference taking place at ICC
Sydney, Ovation Australia managed multiple
nightly offsite events in more than 50 of
Sydney’s most iconic and premium venues,
with a number of events also taking place in
some hidden gems and local favourites,
providing international visitors with invaluable local knowledge.
Some notably iconic venues which were used for official and exhibitor events include
marquee locations within the Royal Botanical Gardens, the islands within Sydney Harbour,
luxury cruise vessels, Sydney’s top restaurants, art gallery and museum spaces and, of course,
the Sydney Opera House.
A total of 7655 delegates attended Sibos, with 5745 guests at official and exhibitor events
managed by Ovation Australia.
As the Official Destination Partner, Ovation Australia managed the overall logistical delivery of the
event within the city of Sydney. This included all the official social events, conference and
exhibitor staffing, ground transport from airport arrivals, hotel shuttles and water transfers, tour
programs, and providing destination and corporate hospitality support as the local experts to
more than 200 exhibitors.
In addition to the above, a completely bespoke tour program for a group of VIP delegates
and their partners was created. This program showcased a combination of quintessential iconic
Sydney experiences and local-favourites, including spectacular private homes in the Southern
Highlands, post-card experiences at Sydney icons, hands-on wildlife experiences with wild
wombats and kangaroos, deep dives into the rich history of Sydney and Aboriginal heritage
complimented by meals at a number of Sydney’s finest cafes, restaurants and bars.
MCI’s destination management division, Ovation Australia, helped
deliver the world’s largest financial conference in Sydney in October.

Ovation Australia also provided staffing solutions for the conference and exhibitors, resulting
in the management of more than 300 people onsite. These event staff included a number of
event hosts and hostesses, administration support, hospitality staff, event and logistics crew,
transport coordinators and expert local guides.
From start to finish, Ovation Australia managed more than 140 individual events. These
events ranged from exclusive, intimate dinners at high-end fine-dining restaurants, to hospitality
and entertainment at exhibition stands, to extravagant 400-person events with breathtaking
entertainment, elaborate production, and everything in between.
A signature event was the gathering of more than 1500 guests at the Sibos Closing Event on
the Thursday evening, where guests enjoyed the very best Sydney has to offer. Ovation
Australia’s team of talented event producers created a bespoke concept which activated five
themed spaces in which guests could explore and experience Sydney’s many unique influences
and tastes, with a DJ and feature performance by Jacinta Gulisano getting the party started.
Guests also enjoyed a dazzling fireworks display launched from the waters of Cockle Bay in
Darling Harbour, with the stunning display seemingly at an arms-reach from the ICC’s Grand
Ballroom balcony and the lights of Sydney’s skyline illuminating the evening. The event came to
a close with the words “Cheers, Great Sibos!” written in pyrotechnics on the water which
fortified the evening as one to be remembered as the guests celebrated into the night.
The success of Sydney as a leading special event destination created the perfect storm with the
city hosting both Sibos, the Invictus Games and a royal visit taking place in the same week.
Months, weeks and days prior to the event week had transport and access plans changing
constantly with road closures and access to public locations having regular changes due to
Regular communication between all
organising parties of both the Invictus
Games, the royal visit, the City of Sydney,
and key venue precincts such as the Sydney
Opera House was essential to ensure events
were not impacted, with great collaboration
between all parties ensuring Sydney shined
during the week.
One of the week’s highlights was an
extravagant evening that took place in The
Calyx. Ovation Australia’s creative services
team created an elegant event concept that
reflected the natural beauty and essence of
Australia’s native flora and fauna with a
uniquely sophisticated touch. From the
feature performance to the menu design,
every detail added to the concept, making
the event come to life.
Ovation’s attention to the details was
exemplified through the custom bars,
elaborately themed gourmet food stations,
extravagantly breathtaking floral features,
bespoke staff uniforms and luxurious furniture
and decor. Entertainment for the evening
continued to exemplify the concept, with a
number of roving entertainers including
contortionists, gymnasts, stilt walkers, and
ribbon dancers - all donning beautiful
bespoke costumes which carried the
concept throughout the evening.
Feature performances throughout the night
took place on a custom-built stage on the
feature island within the venue where
acrobats and dancers were balancing,
spinning, flipping and juggling through
completely unique shows choreographed
specifically for this event. m
