Home' micenet eMag : micenet December 2018 Contents To celebrate the 20th anniversary of VMware, its annual conference, vFORUM 2018, utilised all
areas of Luna Park Sydney over two days in October 2018. Having held this event previously at
Luna Park in 2014, the organisers, McCorkell & Associates, knew what exciting opportunities
holding such an event in this precinct would bring.
SPECIAL TOUCHES: Key highlights of the event included hearing from the experts, connecting
and collaborating with colleagues and new contacts, driving VMware technology in the hands-
on laboratories and exploring the latest innovations in emerging technologies such as the
Internet of Things, Blockchain technology, DevOps and network functions virtualisation.
To stimulate and excite the delegates, sponsor companies utilised the many different facets of
Luna Park – boardroom meetings were held in the gift shop, breakout sessions inside the
dodgem car ride, cocktail parties in the ice cream parlour, The Deck restaurant and even in the
Midway. Sponsors also held information sessions, workshops and gave away merchandise in
the sideshow games outlets.
With almost 2000 delegates each day, catering was curated to suit all areas – multiple coffee
carts opening each morning at 7am, hospitality areas setup for morning and afternoon teas,
retail food outlets providing specially selected menus for lunch and different canape menus for
the various hosted cocktail parties.
UPGRADED I.T.: The park’s newly upgraded IT technology was put to the test as multiple
segregated networks configured for each different aspect of the conference were put in place to
ensure stability and security of the devices being connected. This allowed park-wide
communication of presentations to be picked up in each venue, custom WiFi networks
configured for sponsors to demonstrate their new and updated software, and delegates having
access to free WiFi with the guarantee that users would not jump networks.
Luna Park’s primary and failover ISP connections were increased to 200Mbps and
250Mbps respectively to accommodate the additional requirements of the conference.
During the event the minimum number of clients connected at any one time was 800. At the
peak of the conference there were approximately 1100 devices connected with 700 of these
Forty-nine digital signage screens over 17 locations were utilised throughout the two-day
conference to give delegates vital information of activities throughout the conference. With the
signage system’s ability to accommodate for complex scheduling, the system provided
correct information available to delegates at different times of the day in each location.
Sponsors had access to digital signage locations which allowed them to utilise the screens to
highlight their products.
CLIENT’S COMMENT: “What an event! Wow. Thanks so much for providing us with such a
gorgeous venue for our vFORUM this year... The feedback has been excellent. We used the
entire park – even the dodgems for our sessions, the ferris wheel for our meetings, we used
Maloney’s corner for our labs and we filled every room to overflowing. I congratulate your team
of hard working staff – especially AH who went over and above.” m

The big reveal.
EASTLAKES LIVE AT THE STAR
The Star Sydney’s Event Centre was chosen by property giant Crown Group as the perfect
location to unveil their Eastlakes Live development. The 1300-strong guest list including buyers,
media and celebrities were wowed from their first step onto the red carpet to witness the reveal
of the never-before-seen model and detailed design of Eastlakes Live. Beyond the exchange of
property, Crown Group fostered the longevity of their networks, partnerships and community
throughout the evening.
The Star team worked closely with Crown Group to create a seamless multi-sensory
experience. Guests were taken on a journey from the old east, showcasing commissioned
images from the State Library of NSW, which celebrated the enriched history of Eastlakes with a
black and white theme throughout.
SPECIAL TOUCHES: Highlighting The Star’s culinary expertise, guests enjoyed a custom-
designed canape selection with fresh produce sourced from local and NSW based suppliers
created by executive chef Tim George and his team while key beverage sponsor Moet &
Chandon was served to guests in the VIP Lounge, styled by Coco Republic.
An explosive live performance kick started the event as bongo players led guests through
haze-filled tunnels created by fog machines into the Event Centre. The room design drew
inspiration from the Eastlakes development with block colour theming of black and gold. The
room featured elements from the outdoor environment with LED avatrees and park benches
complementing the luxe interiors, brought to life with timber flooring and modern décor. Moet
and Chandon champagne was served by crystal stilt walkers and magicians as they entertained
guests and added a magical twist to an enchanting evening and built up to the main event of
unveiling the Eastlakes Live model.
As Crown Group have hosted many reveals before, The Star’s objective was to create a
unique event to make this the most memorable reveal for Crown and their guests. A cube
created by 8mx8m white chiffon curtain and branded with the Eastlakes Live logo using gobos
took centre stage. Crown Group founder and CEO of development, Iwan Sunito, presented his
dream for the new east. Perfectly timed vision on LED and TV screens commenced with a live
solo vocal performance, and culminated with a synchronised light show and gerb pyrotechnics.
The kabuki dropped revealing the model and detailed floor decal. To ensure everyone was part
of the action, the technical team rigged isolated cameras inside the kabuki frame which fed live
vision and audio throughout the Event Centre and foyer.
Chic Republic played throughout the evening with guests mingling and creating memories
with Fotobox Australia customised printed keepsakes.
CLIENT’S COMMENT: “From inception through to execution, the team at The Star were
dedicated to ensure the success of our event. The natural integration opportunities that exist at
The Star Event Centre make it possible to create a unique journey for guests. Combined with
the great detail and care that the team take when making each and every event decision ensure
the final outcome is seamless and memorable for guests.”
