Home' micenet eMag : micenet AUSTRALIA April 2014 Contents alive and desirable as a business events destination with its new
floating venue, the Dockside Pavilion at Darling Harbour, due to
open in July 2014. Floating on a custom-made pontoon, the
venue caters for 1400 seated guests or 2000 for a cocktail
function and, upon completion, will be the largest venue on a
floating pontoon in the world. Dockside’s executive director of
sales and marketing, Beverley Parker, said the venue will fill a gap
in the market for large-scale function space prior to the opening of
the ICC Sydney in late 2016 and will also be utilised well into the
future. “There’s certainly life after the pontoon being in Darling
Harbour, we don’t know where yet, this will depend on the market
reaction and how the venue is used in the next three years, but
we’d like for it to stay in Sydney,” Ms Parker said. The Pavilion is
set to play a pivotal role in events and cultural festivals in Sydney,
such as the Sydney Boat Show, Sydney Harbour Foreshore
Australia Day celebrations and Vivid.
