biologists, marine educators and experienced divers who provide
an interactive commentary to educate and entertain.
It was originally designed by a naval architect and built in
Western Australia, where it was used to explore reefs around
Rottnest Island. But after an extensive refit in Victoria she is
proving popular for business and leisure guests at her new home
in Queenscliff harbour.
Bellarine’s maritime climate a drawcard
The Bellarine Peninsula is regarded as part of greater Geelong and
is surrounded by Corio Bay, Port Phillip Bay and Bass Strait – a
perfect maritime climate that produces some of Victoria’s best
wines, affords some of its best views, and hosts a growing
number of business events.
Take McAdams Lane on the Bellarine for example – it sits on a
peak with breathtaking views across the bays and it boasts two
outstanding wineries and business events venues: Terindah Estate
and Jack Rabbit Vineyard. And being less than one and a half
hours from the CBD, the area is gaining popularity as an offsite
Terindah Estate is open to the public seven days a week for
brunch and lunch, and its purpose-built, double-storey meeting
spaces with floor-to-ceiling glass to capture the water views are
available to meeting planners. There’s a range of spaces from the
cellar door (50) and the dining room (200 banquet), to a verandah
deck for 150 and a mezzanine deck that holds 50. They call their
restaurant “The Shed” and under the watchful eye of head chef
John King, the menu features local, seasonal produce including
some from their own property and herb garden.
There are also rolling lawns that run down to the vines – ideal for
cocktails or breakouts. Even on the warm day I visited there was
a cool breeze from across the bays and the modern corrugated
iron architecture stayed cool.
Terindah (Indonesian for most beautiful) lives up to its
picturesque reputation and its volcanic basalt soils produce cool
climate wines including sparkling, pinot noir, pinot gris,
chardonnay, rose, zinfandel and shiraz.
Literally across the Lane, lies Jack Rabbit Vineyard, which also
enjoys unrivalled bayviews across to Geelong, the You Yangs
mountain range and Melbourne. Jack Rabbit also has a diverse
range of award-winning, cool climate wines made from estate or
locally grown fruit...and it boasts a simple stylised logo, an
oversized pair of rabbit ears.
Late last year the vineyard opened Jack Rabbit restaurant which
has inspirational views to backdrop meetings and events and
contemporary cuisine to match.
Also on the Bellarine is Leura Park Estate, which specialises in
cool climate wines on its 150 acres. It is also an event drawcard
in its own right, staging events that draw a crowd from miles away,
such as Shakespeare in the Vines, degustation dinners.
Geelong city played host recently to more than 350 Mustangs.
The classic cars came from Australia-wide to gather on the
Geelong waterfront as part of the 2014 Mustang and Shelby
Nationals, an annual car show for the Mustang Owners Club of
Shed at Terindah
