As promised by the MEA Chair of the Board at our Annual
National Conference in Kuala Lumpur, MEA has issued a
survey to its members in regards to its future benefits.
The response to the survey has been very good and well
above association survey standards and we are absolutely
delighted with this.
The response to the survey has shown that our members are
engaged and interested in the continuous improvement of their
association moving forward and this is indeed good news.
Last month (July), the MEA Board of Directors, myself, and a
number of involved members spent a day looking at the collated
survey results and making key decisions moving forward for the
benefit of our members.
Once collated results have been analysed, our members will be
provided with a report on the survey and its outcomes. During this
planning day the lucky winner of the “Chairman’s” prestigious
bottle of Grange was also drawn (and will be announced soon).
Having recently spent two days at the Annual Associations
Forum Conference, with many of my association counterparts, it
has become increasing notable that all associations need to
continually reinvigorate themselves to ensure ongoing member
engagement. Our survey is very timely.
Recently in Sydney, led by Roslyn McLeod from arinex, a very
well attended Special Interest Group (SIG) was held. Kindly hosted
by the Hilton Sydney this group put on the table their thoughts
and views, and this information has been provided back to MEA
for possible action.
It is the intention that this group will meet on a regular basis. In
the very near future this information will become the basis of our
online PCO SIG and we invite all members in this sector who
could not attend to contribute.
I encourage members from each of our industry sectors who
would like to take the lead and get a SIG off the ground in their
state or territory to contact me in the first instance. Our intention is
for each of us to meet face to face at our next national conference
on Hamilton Island in May 2015 with lots of action having taken
place since we all last met in Kuala Lumpur.

In a world of innovation and ever-growing possibilities for events
it can be difficult to find the best people. However, having the
right services and people working on your event can make or
break it. Thankfully, Meetings & Events Australia has a tool to
ensure you have the finest professionals working on your event.
MEA’s Who’s Who directory is a comprehensive list of events
professionals, all of whom are members of MEA. Put simply it is a
“suppliers directory”, allowing users to quickly and easily find
suppliers. The Who’s Who directory includes venues, destinations,
caterers, themers, staging and technical producers and hirers, all
highly qualified businesses and individuals who will make your
event a success. For many, MEA’s Who’s Who directory is an
industry bible, easy to use and full of information needed to make
sure you get the right people.
Take for example, Grace, a PCO who was put in charge of
organising a small annual conference. Despite this being the first
time Grace had organised this event, she was confident that she
would simply be able to book the same venue and services the
company had used previously. Not so. The venue was completely
booked out and finding reliable people to work on the event was
proving harder than she thought. With a looming deadline Grace
Thankfully she found the Who’s Who directory.
The Who’s Who directory is an easy to use search engine. Users
can look up companies and professionals they already know the
name of, or simply search within a category and region. For Grace,
this simple search method was an invaluable tool for finding the
right people for her event. And not only that, but the level of
expertise provided by the suppliers Grace hired allowed her to
make the event the best it could possibly be. In the end everything
went smoothly and it was unanimously agreed that this year’s
conference was the best one yet.
Organising an event doesn’t have to be difficult if you have the right
people. MEA’s Who’s Who directory will put you in touch with the
right people, making your job easier and your event a success. m
